Snapshot 25 No.250-259
259. Myrtle

Myrtle branches are growing too much.
Though under blossoming, they were trimmed.
Close look indicates the flowers are fairly nice.
So, some are brouhgt into the room.

257. In memory of Nob san

There was a time I tried to imitate Nob-san's illustrations.
The photo is one of my replications. Unbelievable but the work 30 years ago!
Um--. No dynamism. Sadly, no talent.

256. Nob-san
Heard that Nob-san, SIMODA nobuo sanApassed away.
The left is SAAB J35 Draken on page 060 in "Nobu-san's aircraft graffiti 2"
of Koujinsha Publishing.
He marverously illustrated deformed aircraft by grabbing its distinctive feature.
No one surpasses him.
The right is Draken at the wall of my shack.

255. Rice seedlings

Rice seedlings at this time of the year.
Regardless of the paddy locations, they are planted with this size of bundle and this size of separation.
This seems to be the optimum solution for good harvest.

254. Masiko after the holiday season
On the way home from Batou, we stopped at Masiko where we missed to visit on the May holidays.
Masiko's street at this time after the series of holidays is as in the photo. I have never seen Masiko with no crowd.
Wondering how the safflower horse-chestnut at a ceramics store is, we visited there and found it in full blossom. Unlike the white flowers of ordinary horse-chestnut, this brilliant look is my liking.

253. Batou Hiroshige Museum

Hiroshige Museum at Batou. The building is the early works of the architecht KUMA kengo as well.
Its roof and wall are all wooden latticework.
Though it was prohibited by the building codes to use woods for the roofing, he got the permission by impregnating non-flammable and durable agents into the woods by using far-infrared irradiation.
I guess the new National Stadium is an extention of this cocept.
As always in KUMA-san's works, the building materials are those locally availabe. The roof material is cedars at the hills behind the building, and the wall uses the traditional papers produced at the nearby town of Karasu-yama. These are the perfedct match with the style of Hiroshige.
The Hiroshige-works collection is the ones donated by a family who had made a fortune as a fertilizer dealer around this area.
A common saying is that spending money needs a cultured mind. Surely it is correct.

252. Oke (wood tub)
An oke displayed at a miti-no-eki (roadside station) called "A home to fermentation, Kouzaki" located alongside the Tone river.
Its explanation beside the oke reads;
It has become very rare to make miso or soy sauce by using wodden oke. Today there exists only one maker to manufacture such oke for brewing use.
In order not to discontinue the tradition of wooden oke, a brewry called Yama-roku Soy Sauce at Shoudo island has taken a lead and gathered breweries nationwide. And now they manufacture the oke by themselves under the guidance of the oke craftsman.
The word oke reminds me of my friend in junior high school who was a son of an oke-ya (oke shop). I also checked with my XYL and she too remember there was an oke-ya near her home. Well, this is not the story of Edo-period, but the fact we feel just not so long ago.

251. Six statues of jizou bodhisattva

Jizou-san at a nearby temple.
They are believed to salvage those suffering in the endless circle of six posthumous worlds.
We feel them intimately without such mentioning, just because we have sympathy for the very idea that they cherish the affection to the minors. Perhaps.

250. Leaving the nest soon

Annually, May holiday season is the time for the chicks of sijyukara (a finch) at my place fly the nest.
Nearby storm shutters tend to creak have been left open since the middle of March when they started making the nest by filling moss in the box and laying dog's hairs on its top.
The chicks' charps have been getting steady these days. They are to fly off in 2 or 3 days.
The photo is for the parent bird as of this morning. It comes back with a worm in its bill and jump into the box, and about 10 seconds later jump out with the chick's dropping in its bill. This is repeated all the day.
I and my XYL too still well remember the appearance of the parent birds which raised chicks here many years ago. At the time of their chick's flying, their flight feathers were worn out and tattered. Same as in us humans, raising child is indeed tough work.
